This attractive course, completed
in 1976, was also designed by Frank Pennink, but was
subsequently modified by famed golf architect, Robert
Trent Jones, Jr.
The 5th, 12th, 15th and 16th holes were redesigned by
Martin Hawtree, another well-known architect. Recently
the 14th hole was subject to modifications. The existing
characteristics of the layout have been retained and
these holes were upgraded to improve the overall condition
and diversity of the course.
Oceanico Pinhal is laid out over a mixture of flattish and rolling
terrain. Many fairways include narrow necks between
ever threatening rows of umbrella pines, but players
fortunately also encounter several open holes with pleasant
views over Vilamoura and the Atlantic beyond.
The course naturally demands pinpoint positioning from
many tees accuracy is also required when playing approaches
to the relatively small and well-bunkered greens.
Following the modifications in the course, the clubhouse
at Oceanico Pinhal is also being completely renovated
and refurbished, and will be operational from the end
of October.
